Every year, 100 million children view stories on Storyline's website. That's more than a quarter of a million users each day. The site offers a wide collection of stories read to children by famous faces including actors such as Chris Pine, Kevin Costner, and James Earl Jones. Whether you're a parent, grandparent or any other type of caregiver, you'll enjoy the variety of stories available on the site, and the supplemental curriculum which is designed to strengthen the verbal and written language skills of children. Teachers use storylineonline.net in the classroom, and doctors and nurses also use the site to play stories to children in their care.

Benefits of Reading Aloud to Children

Research shows that children that are read stories are better able to cope with times of stress and anxiety. Being read stories also builds motivation and curiosity in young people. It aids memory as children listening to the stories have to remember elements of it, and of course, their ability to concentrate and listen increases. Stories take children to places and times they have not experienced so they enlarge their world, and being read stories helps build children into avid readers and book lovers when they're older.

Choice of Books

Click "All Books" in the top left of the home screen and you'll be taken to a big library of well-known titles including The Elves and the Shoemaker by The Brothers Grimm and The Tales of Peter Rabbit, along with a collection of newer titles. You can view them through School Tube or YouTube, and you can choose to have the stories read with subtitles on or not. Keeping them on could distract some children while others will enjoy reading the subtitles while a celebrity tells them a story.

Award Winning

The site has been a Daytime Emmy Award Nominee, and they've also won the Parent's Choice Award, The Telly Award, the 2017 Communicator Award, as well as the MobileWebAward from the same year. Some parents and teachers might not take these awards as seriously as user feedback, but if you read user reviews online, you'll quickly get a sense of the impact Storyline has on those that use it. The site has 4 out of 5 stars on commonsense.org and enjoys a lot of positives comments and feedback throughout the web.

SAG-AFTRA

The site is run by non-profit organization SAG-AFTRA, which stands for Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. This union represents 160,000 artists working in media today, including actors, announcers, hosts and presenters on TV and other media. Broadcast journalists, recording artists, singers, and voiceover artists are also given representation by the guild, which is why so many celebrities are willing to read stories for Storyline online. The non-profit nature of the guild means that it needs donations to run Storyline.

Donations

You can access Storyline through the web or through an app that's available on The App Store and Google Play. The running costs of the site and the production cost of each video are not paid for by advertisers so donations are needed to keep the site running. Although a lot of the performers work for free or for a very small fee, there are still costs that need to be covered so if you find the site useful, consider making a donation which will be used to create more great content.
